COUNTRY CLUBS
MOBILE APP DESIGNCountry Clubs is a golf statistics tracker and social platform that aims to make golf more fun and social for competitive, casual and new fans alike.
DIAGNOSING A PROBLEMThe goal of this assignment was to create an application that acts as a solution to a problem while utilizing interaction design. As someone who has recently started playing golf, I wanted to create an app that adresses some of the issues that new players feel when trying to begin playing the sport. I noticed two key factors that others and myself experience. First, the sport is very difficult to play no matter what level you are at so creating a fun way to track your progress and see yourself improve may make aquiring skill seem less daunting. Second, there is a social barrier when playing as there are many “unwritten” rules, social etiquite and in some cases, classism that can be seen at courses. This inspired me to impliment a social media aspect that could help others join the golf community easier and bridge social barriers.
RESEARCH
In my research, I studied apps and websites that, displayed statistics in a fun yet digestable way or featured a social tool to make sharing and consuming content intuitive. Combining the informative and efficient use of space of sports websites and the colorful, personalized style of spotify wrapped would create a design system that could show stats in an enjoyable way for new and veteran players alike. With the social side, I wanted it to flow similar to popular social platforms like facebook and instagram while integrating itself seemlessly into the rest of the app.
PROTOTYPING
Next came sketching, where I cut out several pieces of paper for each page and arranged them so such so that I could begin to navigate and press buttons. The communication and design was important but my maine focus in this step was establishing an easy task flow that any user could navigate.
WIREFRAMING
Next I created digital versions for each page of my sketches to create the skeleton of what my app would later become. I was still designing with a focus on task flow and navigation.
STYLE TILES
Once I felt that the user interaction aspect was fleshed out, I had to create an aesthetic system that established a brand. A brand that would be aproachable for new golf players and proffesional enough for veterans. It had to be fun and tied to the game of golf. Green was the obvious choice for the main color system as it is built into all courses. The typeface needed to be casual for headings and legible yet compact for bodycopy. All the visual elements came together to create a finished prototype.
FINAL
Applying my brand style to each page of the prototype, and irioning out the coding/user interface gave me my final product.
