INTERPRETIVE HAIKU BOOKLET

This project involved using design principals and typography to visually represent the feeling of a haiku into a booklet.  I chose a haiku based on weather as I thought it would allow for very interesting symbolism and aesthetics.

Haiku

Tornados and Storms
Next day sunshine and then rain
Today cold and cloudy

Research

My research mostly consisted of understanding the weather I was trying to portray.  I went about this by looking at weather and imagining what design elements represent them and a simple point line and shape level.

Sketches
My goal with my sketches was to find a general idea that I could take into illustrator and experiment with.  I ended up going with the theme of being unwelcomed and attempted to convey that in these sketches.

Illustrator Studies

When I had a group of sketches that I thought could be expanded on, I would bring them into illustrator tor create digital spreads that you can see below

Final
Finally, the spreads that had the best use of contrast, shape and type were selected to be on the final. A front and back page that fit the aesthetic and combined the visual language of the rest of the pages was created to cohesively combine it all together.
