This project aimed to use design principles to create a vector based design for an animal, simplifying the creature down to its iconic features.
Research
My exploration involved a lot of researching images and videos of Mandrills to understand their key features and how their anatomy works.  Once I understood all of the minute and specific details I could then begin to start simplifying what the animal represents
Sketches
In my sketches I focused heavily on understanding the basic shapes that make up the Mandrill and then building off those shapes to make the creature recognizable in the least amount of steps.  It was also important to find a pose that showed off the key features and had a sense of visual heiarchy.
Digital Iterations
Once I had a good understanding of the pose and features I wanted to focus on, I went in to Adobe Illustrator to start constructing the mandrill and adjusting how characteristics were to be perceived.
Final Creature Mark
Adding Type
The next step after having my final animal mark was adding type through a short poem about mandrills.  The poem being, "Faces colorful and vibrant, compared to other monkeys they are giant".  The type aimed to create a habitat for the animal and being cohesive with the design of the creature itself.
