This is a poster series that explores 3 poets who all create relating poetry on racial injustice. My goal was designing posters that promote their poetry exhibitions and uniquely show off each poets work through design while keeping them similar enough to be considered a related series.

Sketches
My goal with my sketches was to find a general idea that I could take into illustrator and experiment with. I ended up going with the theme of being unwelcomed and attempted to convey that in these sketches.
Illustrator Studies
My studies started by taking sketches I had made and putting them in an electronic format, ironing out the composition and experimenting with the information displayed.
Javier Zamora
For the poet Javier Zamora, I honed in on the metaphor and concept of barbwire being the symbolic and literal thing making him feel unwelcomed in these studies.

After finding a concept for Javier Zamora that I found successful, I next needed to conceptualize the posters for Gwendolyn Brooks and Monica Youn
I used Broken Glass as the motif for Gwendolyn Brooks as it represented the racism against African Americans she portrays in her poems.
Monica Youn
For Monica Youn, I used the word "Trapped" as her stories talk about how she felt this way as an Asian American, not feeling like she belonged. I attempt to visualize this feeling in the typography
Creating Cohesion
Color and typeface were the largest factors in connecting all three of the posters together into a connected series.
Color Ideations
After having the composition and design down, it was time to add color. I experimented with many different pallets that would best harmonize with the design of the poster and work best together as a set.
